introduced to folk music at a young age when he attended the Emma Lake Fiddle Camp .
Since then, Clayton has spent his musical life absorbing influence from country blues
guitarists, old time fiddlers, ballad singers and other traditional musicians.
Following the path of players like Martin Carthy, Doc Watson, and his mentor Freddie
Pelletier, Clayton has devoted much of his recent practice to adapting fiddle tunes for the
guitar. As a member of the duo Kacy & Clayton, Clayton has performed on CBC Radio’s Q,
NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, BBC Radio’s Cerys Matthews Show and appeared at such festivals
as Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, MerleFest, Pickathon, and Wilco’s Solid Sound
Festival. Kacy & Clayton have released 6 albums, receiving nominations for both the Juno
Awards and the Polaris Music Prize.
the group’s music evokes comparisons to outfits like The Band or Blue Rodeo the way a yellow 1974 F150 might remind you of the late-summer sun on the prairies.
The band's current lineup consists of Kris Mihilewicz playing guitar, Byron Shaw on bass, Kurt Burnett on the drums and Darryl Dozlaw playing mostly keys. Lead vocal duties are shared between Mihilewicz and Dozlaw, with everyone contributing background vocals.
Having self-produced two EP’s: Oscar’s Hollow (2018) and Now Playing (2019), the band is in the studio recording a full-length album due in 2024. With 6 years playing shows and festivals in venues large and small, Oscar’s Hollow is a premier live band, and not to be missed! Keep your eyes peeled for 2024 tour and festival dates...
genealogical ties to Mikisew First Nation, Alberta. She started writing short stories at the
age of 6 and taught herself how to play the guitar in later years. As a self-taught
musician, turning her poems and short stories into music was a natural progression into
becoming the performer that she is today.
Influenced by times of oppression and racism towards Indigenous people who were
displaced as children by the Canadian Government, her music reflects with raw emotion,
the very real experiences she has had in her life with love, hate, depression, happiness
and growing up away from her biological family and community as part of the 60’s
Scoop. Raven also sings about the generational trauma that many Indigenous families
must battle with following policies implemented by the Government to assimilate the
Indigenous people of Canada.
After growing up in Prince Albert, SK with her adoptive family, Raven now lives in
Saskatoon, SK with her two children, Elias and Willow. As a full-time performer, she has
travelled to various music festivals in her home province such as Ness Creek, Dog Patch
Music Festival, Doylefest, Waskesiu Lakeside Music Festival, and more to share her
stories through song. Raven is also an accomplished public speaker and has been
invited to share her life experiences with schools, women’s summits, and sixties scoop
survivor conventions.
Raven was recently signed with record label Merilainen Music Inc. and travelled to
Toronto to record her upcoming EP Changes with 8 of her original songs with producer
and fellow musician, Marc Merilainen to be released in spring of 2024.
“I believe that adversity can make us stronger and teach us lessons. I also believe that
we are all here for a purpose and everything happens for a reason. I want to encourage
you to find yours. Many Blessings!” - Raven Reid
